Department Aim
The general aim of Technology and Design is to enable all pupils to become confident and responsible in solving real life problems, striving for creative solutions, independent learning, product excellence and social consciousness.
KS3
During the first three years all students will be introduced to a range of materials, tools and machinery which will help them develop the skills and knowledge necessary to design and make a number of different products.
KS4 ( Occupational Studies )
These qualifications are designed to be accessible to a wide range of learners of all abilities. They have been designed to provide a more ‘hands-on’ approach to learning. What makes them different is that they focus on a particular kind of knowledge, understanding and skills providing the potential for learning in an important ‘out-of-school’ context.
The world of work is constantly changing and these qualifications have been structured with this in mind. Learners will have the opportunity to learn for work, through work and about work with a real outcome that will give them the skills for life.
A Level 2 in an Occupational Studies award is equivalent to a GCSE A* to C.
Students choose their units from different pathways:
Electrical
Bench Joinery
Metal Fabrication
