Welcome to Year 8

Dear Year 8 Student

This first year at secondary school is a big step up, with lots of interesting subjects to get used to, a different building to explore and new teachers and friends to meet. At St Colman’s we like you to settle well, find your feet and your confidence so we have lots of activities planned to help you settle into Year 8.  The teachers will be there to help you do just that.

Our teachers are subject specialists who will help you learn new things or maybe it’s a case of learning old things in new ways.  It’s unlikely you will have studied Spanish at primary school but here in St Colman’s you will learn to speak Spanish.

Year 8s have to learn to take more responsibility for themselves with their homework and we help you with that too. Getting into good habits from the start is a great idea and really helps you manage when it gets a little busier.

There are so many exciting opportunities Year 8 and we hope you take advantage of as many as you can.

We look forward to seeing you in September.

What is a Year Head

A Year Head is a teacher who will look after the whole of Year 8.  Mrs McArdle is your Year Head.  She will help you to settle and enjoy your time in St Colman’s and develop a sense of community, respect and understanding.

What is a Form Teacher

A Form Teacher looks after a class.  You will meet your Form Teacher every day.  Your Form Teacher will help you to work together and achieve well and get the best out of your time in St Colman’s.
